Khandala -History
The origin of Khandala is shrouded in obscurity. The hill resort formed part of the territory of the great Maratha leader Chattrapati Shivaji, who is credited with organizing the Maratha into a military power. Later it came under the rule of the Peshwa, during whole reign Maratha power reached its zenith. Khandala was taken by the British from the hands of the Peshwas who subsequently lost power to the British.

Khandala -How to Reach
Khandala does not have an airport of its own. The nearest airport to the hill resort is at Pune, which is 69 km from while the nearest railhead is at Lonavala. As Lonavala is on the main railway line between the important destinations of Mumbai (Bombay) and Pune (Poona), all trains plying between the two cities stop here and it becomes easier to for the travelers to reach Mumbai and Pune. It is three hours journey from Lonavala to Mumbai a four-hour train ride from Lonavala to Pune. Khandala is also well connected to Mumbai and Pune by road.

Khandala has a pleasing climate all throughout year. While the hill resort experiences mild temperature during summers (April-June), while winters are cool (November-February). Southwestern monsoon reached Khandala between June and September and produces heavy rains. So it is advisable for the tourists to avoid the rainy season. The best time to visit the hill resort of Khandala is between the months of October and May.
